Are Organic Foods Really Healthier?
Posted on 17. Aug, 2009 by Core Health Expert in Intelligent Nutrition, Interviews
Are organic foods really healthier than non-organic foods? Certified clinical nutritionist Karen Falbo is the Nutrition Program Manager for Colorado Based Natural Grocers by Vitamin Cottage. She’s also the author of a wonderful whole food allergy elimination cookbook (that I own) titled Vital Abundance Cooking. The book contains deliciously healthy recipes that are gluten-free, dairy-free, sugar-free, and yeast-free. Karen is an ACE certified fitness instructor and Hatha yoga teacher. If natural health advocates had ‘super heroes,’ Karen would be one and she would have a cool costume and lots of super powers
That’s how much I respect her. She’s relentless in her pursuit in learning and teaching. She walks the walk of natural health in a truly exemplary fashion.
In this interview on Tuesday August 18th at 1PM (MST) we will talk about the real truth regarding the difference between organic and non-organic food.
Here are some key points we discuss…
- A little history on pesticide use (everything was organic before world war II)
- The EWG (environmental working group) ‘dirty dozen list.’ (Why are scientists recommending that we avoid the dirty dozen if there is no difference between organic and conventionally grown produce?)
- The toxic load and body burden (an overview on how the body detoxifies and why it is beneficial to minimize toxin exposure
- Organic laws for product (important regulations—no GMOs, no sewage sludge, etc)
- Organic laws for animal products
- Organic farming (soil health, companion planning, crop rotation, no chemical run off polluting water supply, etc.)—Better for the environment and the community
- Best organic foods to eat to lose weight
Factual and accurate information on the truths regarding organic foods from someone deep within the industry of food quality and distribution.

I just wanted to say what a pleasure it was speaking with Dr. Spallone and “super” nutritionist Karen Falbo on-air Tues! The show, “The truth about organic foods”, was so eye opening and packed with wonderful information. Dr. Spallone asked all the right questions and raised all the important issues. Ms. Falbo was just a breath of fresh air, so knowledgeable and insightful, chock-full of answers. I just wanted to listen to them speak for hours. Actually, I did! I replayed the episode over and took notes!
I’m looking forward to many more shows and *fingers crossed* more interviews with Ms. Falbo!

Very enlightening interview!
Up until recently I had never given a second thought about buying organic or not. Now, I ALWAYS search for the organic item before the non-organic. The sad problem America faces is many people will never buy organic until the price is at least somewhat comparable to the non-organic, which will probably never happen…

Ron, I just wanted you to know that I truly enjoyed your Blog Talk Radio show on “Are Organic Foods Really Healthier”. We all on a gut level may know the answer, but it’s so rewarding to hear all the facts and information to go along with it. My family and I have made a conscious decision to make a lifestyle change together with health, fitness, and wellness. And I thank you for an enjoyable, fact-filled show.
I look forward to more!

Have you seen the Penn & Teller episode on organic foods being “bulls***”?
It really irritated me as I’m an organic food buyer and believe that it’s the way to go – the right thing to do for me and my family. However, based on that one episode, how many people are now misinformed / confused about the chemicals and poor practices in conventional farms? I’m twittering your article-thanks for the great info.
