How to Choose a Personal Trainer

Let’s face it, hiring a personal trainer is a major investment, which is why taking the time to find the right trainer is very important. Just as you would do your research to find the right doctor, you should be doing your homework when it comes to finding the right trainer. After all, you’re looking for the trainer who can help you achieve the results that you deserve.
Many of you may be thinking that one personal trainer is no different from the next, but it’s not that simple.
Things to Consider:
Credentials – Has your personal trainer completed and attained proper fitness certifications? Reputable personal training organizations include, the National Academy of Sports Medicine, American Council on Exercise and the American Academy of Health.
Experience – Before parting with your cash make sure that your trainer has at least 7 years experience working in the field, preferably working with people like yourself. Whether you’re looking to improve flexibility, lose weight or increase lean muscle mass, you will need a trainer that can tailor a fitness plan to your specific needs. A trainer specializing in body building probably isn’t the right choice if you’re looking to slim down without adding bulk!
Likability – Does he or she have a personality that agrees with you? If you don’t get along this could signal the end of your training before you even get started. A trainer needs to have a great deal of patience but also the ability to push you to reach your goals. Remember, the best trainer’s listen closely to what you have to say to ensure they understand your goals.
Teaching ability -There is a lot to be said for a trainer actually teaching you the moves instead of just showing you. If you cannot continue with the workout routine alone, once your training comes to an end, then consider it a waste of time and money!
Individual needs – If you have a specific health condition, such as diabetes or pregnancy, that might limit your mobility, find a personal trainer who is experienced working in these areas and is willing to consult with your doctor.
